I am not a big fan of chasing fed stockers, but if Ted Fucking Turner is guiding, you know there will be bitches and liquor will be flowing like, well like the soque river. Jimmy can referee the biggest fish comp.

true story:

I fished the Soque with some friends who had gone to school in Georgia, and assured me they knew "just the place" to fish when we all met in Atlanta for a meeting.

Our experience was a little different than what the Lodge web site shows: the river where we fished it is a narrow cut through a pair of farmer's fields, not nearly as scenic or bucolic as depicted herein.

Still, there were cows. Lots of cows.

The fishing was decent -- we spent a day taking turns at tossing streamers (bullet head muddlers, as I recall) at every piece of structure we could find in the mile or so of river we fished.

The farmers fed us a decent hot lunch mid-day, and topped the day off with some home-brew moonshine (wasted on me, alas, but my friends tell me it was good stuff).

By the end of the day, we'd each caught about a dozen fish, mostly in the 18-24 inch range. It was clear they weren't natives, but still, we weren't aware of how domesticated they were 'til, towards the end of the day, they started rising for the first time all day.

The rises got more and more frequent, and we tried all sorts of patterns to see if we could match the hatch. The problem was that we weren't seeing any naturals -- clearly some sort of pre-emergence, or maybe midges.

Finally we stumbled upon the secret: near the upstream border, hidden in the bushes, was a pellet dispenser, spitting trout chow out onto the river. THAT's what they were coming up for, and they wouldn't touch anything else.

No Yakima trout feeding on BWO's has ever been that selective.

Really kind of tainted the whole day's experience, ya know?
