digression: music -- thee best of 2006

Thee AHW kollektive is a loud and musical place. We do a lot of listening. In fact, we're fucking pros at listening to music. We can listen to more music in a shorter amount of time than any other fly fishing blog out there. That all being said, here's a short list of our favorites for 2006. As always, your comments are welcome and encouraged.
1. Akron/Family, Meek Warrior
Nice mix of stoned blissful tranquility and mixed up jazzy wha' tha fahkedness. This one features drumming of free jazzer Hamid Drake, which adds a nice rattle to the Family's hippie buzz.

2. Bonnie "Prince" Billy, And the Letting Go.
So the Bonny Prince goes to Iceland to record this thing with a bunch of Bjork's crew -- don't let that stop you from buying this. Some nice strum and sing by billy mixed with some soaring female vox. Bonus: some editions come with a free acoustic album, which kicks much ass.

3. Tom Waits, Bastards
Three albums worth of prime Waits. Fuck and yes.

Costello/Toussaint's "The River in Reverse" may not break much new ground, but is still a damned sweet recording. Certainly deserves to be in the top 10 of 2006.
