corporate whores kill rock creek

Bill Orchow is president and CEO of Revett Minerals. Bill likes silver and copper and American greenbacks. Bill likes this shit so much he's willing to fuck up Rock Creek, a population of endangered grizzlies, a population of endangered bull trout, put roads all over the place, dump chemicals, cut down trees and lord knows whatall else. Surprized? Nope. Not a bit. This is happening incrementally all over the country (steve joyce -- c'mon down!) and there is no one in the current administration who'd dare step in front of this type of progress. Having fifshed Rock Creek last week, well... I'm just stunned and saddened.
Here's the money quote from the missoulian
As planned, the 35-year project would build several miles of roads into the Cabinets, as well as railroad stations, pipelines, power lines, a tailings treatment plant and other infrastructure on more than 1,500 acres. At full capacity, it should yield an estimated 10,000 tons of copper and silver ore per day.

Steve, I think you may have the wrong Rock Creek. The one that is going to be mined is up by Noxon at the end of the Clark Fork. There was a huge housing development they were trying to put in on lower Rock Creek just after you start up RC road east of Missoula. I think that got shot down though. Tim

This article refers to the Rock Creek that flows into the Clark Fork of the Columbia below the Noxon Rapids Dam,
south of Libby.
